ASANER Regional Championship 21 / 22 November 2015

 

The Regional Championships took place at Sunderland Aquatics centre on 21st and 22nd November and BOBSC were proud to have 12 of our swimmers qualifying to compete, swimmers were split between Age groups 11 – 14 year olds, and open being 15 and upwards.

 

For many of the swimmers it was a very busy gala, most having achieved more than 1 event qualifying time, it is an excellent outcome for not only so many swimmers to be competing but so many in multiple events.

 

The first event for BoBSC on the day saw Abigail  Miles (11) achieve a Silver medal in 100m Breaststroke, Abigails day continued with 4th in the 400m IM and 5th in the 200m freestlye, 200 backstroke and 50m Backstroke.   A second medal came with a Bronze in the 400m freestyle, and the Silver in the 50m Breaststroke.  Day 2 and more races with a silver in 200m Breaststroke and 5th in 200 IM and 100m back.  Abigail also competed in 100 fly 100 free, 50 fly and 200m fly.

 

Libby Turner (14) again had a good weekend narrowly missing out on so many mendals, 4th place in 100m breaststroke 4,th 200 breaststroke,4th 200 IM,  swimming in the top 10 for 50m Butterfly, 50m & 100m freestyle, 100m butterfly, 200m freestely, 50m breaststroke, 50m & 100m back.

 

Young talent of Lewis Baker (11) competed in a massive total of 15 events across the weekend, with the best result of 5th coming in the 400m Individual Medley.

 

Jessica Richardson, previously known for her talents in Butterfly, took on the long distance of 800m the only one of our swimmers to achieve long distance times, she also completed in 50m Freestlye, 50m & 200m Butterfly and 100m Backstroke.

 

It was great to see some new talent competing in their first Regional Championships in Georgia Hamblett (14), Sam Charlesworth (11) and Megan Firth (12).

 

Elizabeth Safonkina (13) and Gregory Lugton (14) competed in a 5 events each across the weekend, attaining some top 10 finishes.  Whilst Harriet Ostrowski-Jones (12) qualified for the 100m & 200m Breaststroke events.

 

In the Open Competition, Tom Speed (16) took on a number of events achiving Silver in 50m Breaststroke and 5th in the 200m breaststroke final, having achieved 3rd earlier in the day in the qualifiers.  Competition continues to be tight for all these events, never being able to predict which way they will go in the top group.  Thomas also competed in the heats of the 50m butterfly. 

 

On day 2 Tom went into the 100m breaststroke final qualifying 3rd overall whilst finishing 5th in the final, earlier competing in the heats of the 200 IM and 50m Freestyle.

 

A fantastic weekend for the club, with swimmers representing Barnsley across all events in such a large competition.

 

Sheffield City B Grade 21st November 2015

Sheffield City B Grade saw many of the swimmers achieve personal bests with medals being given to swimmers to 6th place.  A fantastic 67 personal best times were achieved across the afternoon, with some swimmers having their first experience of long course meets.

 

The medals were spread across all age groups in some very exciting races, Kalum Smart (11) started the event well with some 4th places, gaining his first medal in 100m Fly Bronze in the morning, adding to this with a great Gold in the 50m Fly later in the day.

 

Nathan Billingham (14) went from strength to strength all day achieving a sterling 8 medals across the day, Gold in 200 Individual Medley, 50m Backstroke and 50m Breaststroke, with Silver in 50m free and 100m backstroke, with Bronze medal in 100m free and 50m butterfly.

 

Success for the boys continued with 2 silvers in 100m Breaststroke and 50m Backstroke for William Kenny (12) and Bronze for Curtis Harper (10) in 50m fly whilst achieving a speeding ticket in 200m Backstroke.

 

The 13 year girl category had a fantastic day with medals being received by a number of the swimmers across all events. 

 

This was followed by a superb 200m Individual Medley race for Barnsley, seeing Ella Waller come home with Silver whilst Georgia Clarke and Millie Hamby achieving 4th and 5th respectively.  Millie Hamby continued her success with Silver for both the 100m freestlye and 50m back.  Lucy Hatfield then added to this age group with a Silver in 100m Breaststroke.  Ella and Georgia finished the day with Silver and Bronze respectively in the 100m Fly.

 

It was a good day for the Lee sisters, Megan (14) bringing home medals in both Breaststroke events, Gold in 100m and Silver in 50m, whilst Georgia (10) also received a Gold in 50m Backstroke.  Our last medal of the day went to Eleanor Valentine Bull (9) achieving her first Gold in the 50m Freestyle.

Barnsley Minor Individual Championship report 7th November 2015

Last weekend saw the BOBSC squad attend Knottingly for the Alec James Barnsley Minors League Individual Championship, X swimmers took place across all age groups.  Split across 2 sessions the team had an exciting day with a good number of personal bests.  All races were 50m sprint.

In the Girls 9 year category, Kloe Eade had a great morning with 2 PB’s and 2 medals, in Silver and Freestyle, whilst picking up 4th place in Breaststroke.

Kalum Smart (11) competing in all 4 events had a great success in the Butterfly with a Bronze, there was also a good interclub race with our 11 year girls in the backstroke with <.7 between 3 swimmers.

In the 13 year group Lucy Hatfield had a fantastic performance in the 50m breaststroke with a Gold at a time of 40.61s, followed by a bronze for Thomas Stather, just 0.12 between silver and bronze.

In the afternoon session the excitement increased with the first race, Lola Yoxall and Georgia Lee coming home with Gold and Bronze respectively in the Backstroke, followed quickly by a silver for Jessica Richardson in the 12yr backstroke in a closely competed race with less than 0.3 of a second splitting the top 3. 

Further success in the same stroke for William Kenny (12) Gold and Corinne Hill (16) silver.  William continued his winning run with a gold in the breaststroke, matched by Georgia Hamblett (14) in her age group.  Nathan Billingham (14) and Corinne Hill (16) continued the success in breaststroke with 2 bronze medals

Lola Yoxhall took her 2nd of 4 medals in the 50m Breaststroke, following this with a bronze in Butterfly and Silver in Freestyle with Georgia Lee picking up the Bronze in freestlye for the 10yr event.  Macy Yoxhall came home with a silver in the butterfly and 4th in breaststroke having been above the cut off time for the other events.

After last months Gold in the Yorkshire Championships, Curtis Harper repeated it again this time in Butterfly.  Jessica Richardson, increased her medal count with a gold in the same event then a Silver in Freestyle. 

Whilst Nathan Billingham achieved his second Bronze in Butterfly.  Sisters Corinne and Alanah Hill achieved Silver and Bronze respectively in the 50m Butterfly.

Alongside the above medals for Freestyle the team were also successful in age 12 boys and age 14 girls with William Kenny and Georgia Hamblett battling for the bronze medals, the latter in a thrilling session with 2 swimmers being awarded bronze on 30.59.  Nathan Billingham picked up his 3rd Bronze in the freestlye the same place being awarded Corinne Hill.

A fantastic days swimming was had by the club with 22 medals being achieved across the squad.

Also swam Millie Hamby, Ella Waller, Emily Yeates, Neve Wilkie, Isabelle Speed, Lucy Redfern, Lily Martin, Freya Waller, Maea Hamby, Lucy Hamblett, Lucy Greatorex, Lucy Gray, Holly Northam, Megan lee Rianna Hill, Alanah Hill, Elliot Robinson.

Round 3 Club Championship

A fantastic 3rd and final round of the club championship 2015 was held on
the 30th October, being sprints and 200IM for the senior squads and all
swimmers having the opportunity to swim the 400m freestyle.

Medals were given for each age group of 11 and upwards in the 50 m sprint,
with golds being achieved in the girls events by Abigail Miles (11), Jessica
Richardson (12), Elizabeth Safonkina (13), Georgia Hamblett (14), Holly
Milnes (15/16) Rianna Hill (over 17).

For the boys sprint, Alexander Tilhonov (10), Lewis Baker (11), Sam
Charlesworth (12) in an exciting battle winning his heat age group by only
0.6 second, Greg Lugton (14) Tom Speed (15/16). All 5 boys then went on to
achieve Gold in the boys 200 Individual medley. Lawrence Savage won the
sprint for 17and over age group.

In a quick turnaround the girls were back out for the 200m IM seeing
Abigail, Jessica and Elizabeth achieving their second Golds of the evening
with Sisters Corinne Hill and Rianna Hill achieving gold in the 15/16 and 17
overs age groups respectively.

The excitement rose for all competitors moving into the 400m freestyle, with
some extremely close heats. Molly Baker following in her older brothers
footsteps attained Gold in 8 and under age group whist the familiar name of
Abigail Miles achieved the 11 and under age group with a great time of
5:10:87. There were 14 competitors between 9 and 11 challenging for this
medal the younger swimmers pulling out some great times.

Jessica Richardson went on to achieve Gold in the age 12/13 with a time of
5:09:44 and Corrine Hill Gold in 14 and over.

Golds for the boys were achieve by Charlie Clark (8 and under) Lewis Baker
(11 and under) this age group again showing some great talent ck g through
with only second between 3rd and 4th. After narrowly missing out on the
sprints Matthew Selous achieved his first Gold of the night in the 400m
12/13 age group with Tom Speed achieving gold in over 14's.

Again we saw 4 club record being broken, Abigail Miles taking all 3 for her
events and Lewis Baker setting a new club record in the 11 and under boys
400m free.
